POST TREATMENT ADVICE
Sports, deep tissue and remedial massage are a collective style of therapeutic massage used to treat and remedy dysfunctions held within the soft tissues of the body (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia). It is an excellent treatment that can benefit many individuals. This includes anyone with muscular tension, tightness, discomfort and pain, and those seeking overall relaxation and an enhanced sense of well-being.
Sports, remedial and deep tissue massage is certainly not just for the sports person. Many of the activities that we carry out in everyday life and work can put stress on the musculoskeletal system. Massage can be an excellent way to restore balance, reduce the likelihood of, or assist in the recovery from strains and injury - whatever the cause.
Many clients worry that this form of massage may hurt and can be put off by the idea that this massage style is a lot deeper than others. The truth is how it feels entirely depends on you. How you feel on the day of treatment, what it is you’re having massaged, what training or activities you’ve done or not done recently, or your mood can all affect how a massage feels. Everyone’s a little bit different and that’s why the depth I work at is tailored to suit you and will be appropriate to your condition. I will always ask if the pressure during a massage is acceptable and will respond to your feedback. Clients can report feeling a “good pain”, often described as a mild discomfort that somehow you just know is doing you good.
These massages incorporate a range of different techniques, both superficial and deep, to bring about a therapeutic effect on the tissues. The different massage strokes can reduce pain, increase circulation, stimulate lymphatic flow, reduce muscle tightness and tension, and reduce scar tissue. The techniques used can include effleurage, petrissage, shaking and josling, myofascial and trigger point release. It can also include techniques to help to stretch and lengthen the muscles such as soft tissue release and muscle energy techniques.
MASSAGE FOR INJURY PREVENTION AND RELAXATION
Anyone who would prefer a deeper form of massage will appreciate this treatment. You don’t have to be experiencing any symptoms to benefit from the therapeutic effects. Many of the massage strokes and techniques can help you to relax and the body can be treated as a whole, rather than just a specific area or certain muscle groups.
MASSAGE FOR THE TREATMENT OF SOFT TISSUE INJURIES
Many soft tissue sprains, strains and injuries can be effectively treated with sports, remedial and deep tissue massage. If you are unsure whether sports massage is the correct treatment for you, please get in touch.
PRE-EVENT MASSAGE
Pre-event sports massage is a specific type of massage, which utilises general sports massage techniques in a manner which prepares the body for sporting activity or physical exertion. This type of massage is one that can be applied from up to two days prior to the event and as close as two hours before the event. A pre-event massage stimulates the flow of blood and nutrients to the working muscles, with increased circulation aiming to reduce the risk of injury. A pre-event massage has the ability of stretching the soft tissues, which in turn increases flexibility for physical activity. This type of massage also allows the individual to relax prior to activity, and aims to create a sense of focus on their performance.
POST-EVENT MASSAGE
Post-event sports massage is a type of massage that uses general sports massage techniques to allow the body to recover from physical activity. The main aim of this type of massage is similar to that of a pre-event massage - to promote circulation and reduce tightness within the muscles. After exercise, muscles are in a state of fatigue. The purpose of massage is to reduce this fatigue and soreness, by increasing the removal of waste products and relieving tension within the muscles. Post-event massage can be effective up to 48 hours after exercise.
Sports, deep tissue and remedial massage sessions are available for 45 minutes or 1 hour duration.
